Hey Randy,
I like your motivational words. Are there things you are putting off? "Why not now" could certainly become a mantra of my own. It is easy to put off living until the ridiculous stars in our heads align.

Your comment led me back to this entry and made me revisit my own success on my three words. I'm still working on focus, still needing to reinforce my posse...but I am definitely getting better at self care.

I don't believe you and I have ever met in person, but I see your name all the time on the freelancer list. Let's make 2010 the year we meet. Let's get coffee and talk shop for an hour. Perhaps we can work together somehow.

This is excellent advice, and I say this from the agency side, where we were far more involved in the graphic design side of marketing communications. The challenge was; not only did we have to explain to the client what WE required from them; but more importantly, we also had to educate them as to what questions should they ask us! Your outline would have been the perfect introduction!

The same is very true in the client collaboration process when we're creating a one-of-a-kind residential design; it seems the hardest point to get across is the importance of time spent planning at the very beginning of a project. It seems to the client that nothing is happening, and why aren't we calling in the demo crew to get started! When we are successful in getting the client to understand the value of planning, it results in budgets met, completion dates on schedule, and a successful design for our clients and a win for us.

I've been seeing your name pop up on Plaxo for a few months now. I assume you remember me. I was on the IABC board with you. I'd love to reconnect. I liked reading your piece on persistence.

John, you are doing exactly what I suggest with your photographic passion: keeping the day job while building your photo workshops...slowly putting in place more activities that fit your dream. Eventually the balance will shift and the leap to your dream cloud won't be such a stretch. Julia Cameron says in her book, the Artist's Way..."Leap and the net will appear." I believe in first creating the net through our networks and communicating to everyone with energy and passion the direction we want to go. A more cautious leap, but one that I think has greater chance for success.

Very thoughtful Jocelyn. I have been pondering these very thoughts. Wondering how I can follow the passion of my heart to teach full time. To create images full time. So having had some success in my own business for about 15 years I find myself embarking on a new direction... this time more slowly.. more patiently but moving in that direction non the less. Making new contacts in a new industry hoping I might find a new relationship tied to my passion.... thanks for the confirmation of my dream. JB

Jocelyn, some very well thought out advice. More seems to be pervasive in society today, I like you don't know how much more I can give and still build my business. Your posts have me re-evaluating my priorities.
1) Much like the cobbler's shoes my own website needs attention.
2) I'll market myself more in certain areas, print, and online.
3) Take some downtime for my hobbies, coin collecting, reading spy fiction novels, and target shooting.
See I took your advice and wrote it down. Keep up the good writing.
